How to keep spouse happy while pursuing new interests?

I am a stay at home mom and have always supported my husband's career. Now that our kids are older, I am beginning to pursue my own interests outside of the home. Because this directly affects my availability and requires me to spread my energy out among many new responsibilities, I am worried that this may create some resentment from my spouse. From your experience, how have you made this transition easier and what are some obstacles that got in your way?

Good for you making sure that you are taking some time for yourself! It will make you a better wife and mother. One caution though, family should be one of your first priorities above most others especially while still raising children. In my experience, some time away gave me time to de-stress and gave them the opportunity to appreciate all the things I do but this multitasking thing never worked for me. Communicate about everything, set a game plan and make small changes over a decided time period. Small steps will do wonders for everyone's well being.
