A new school year has started on college campuses across the country. Of course, primary focus should be upon studies, one's extracurricular activities, and one's development as burgeoning upstanding citizen of society.
But we cannot forget about the sex, can we? Especially as mid-terms, and the subsequent need to "blow off steam" approaches.
On college campuses, sex, at the very, very least, looms large like a cumulus nimbus above the hallowed halls of academia. Everyone is thinking about it, in some way, shape or form. The point of this exploration into the ubiquity of sex on college campuses is to inform you co-eds that there are ways to deal with the mighty presence of sex. Here are five things to watch.

Watch the Alcohol
Just watch the alcohol. Drink it. Have fun with it. But watch it.
For one thing, you do not want to be taken advantage of. You want to have fun. You may want to lose as many ambitions as it is safe to lose, but don't find yourself on the floor in a room you never thought you'd be in, having done something with someone you never thought about, period. It's nice to fall in love at a party, but falling into bed at a party can get dangerous. Meet and make out a bit, but save the sex for the next night. There is something to be said for a vetting process.
Also, you don't want to perform badly, either. And trust me: alcohol can definitely make you perform badly. You don't want to be on the verge of hitting a home run just to swing and miss. You don't want to be about to catch the touchdown pass, wide open, to win the game just to have the ball slip through your fingers. Drink it up, but make sure you can "hold your own" when the time comes.

Watch the Person
To continue with the idea of vetting, make sure that the person you are with
A. Has no strings attached. You don't want to hook up with the starting linebacker's girlfriend. You don't want to sleep with the guy your pledge mistress is madly in love with (unless you do it secretly). Don't have 20 minutes of fun equal an entire semester of discomfort.
B. Is normal. Yeah, he's charming during the party, but you didn't predict the child porn you accidently found under his bed when looking for your underwear the next morning. Yeah, she's hot, but you didn't know that she got turned on by cutting herself during sex. These are people with issues. If you see these issues coming, wish them a speedy recovery and move on. You may even end up being platonic with them, but put the romantic ideas aside until you can get a better handle on things.

Watch the friends
In order to trust a lover, you may have to trust the people with whom they socialize. Yeah, he's great, but his friends are douche bags who will spread rumors about your sexual tendencies just to screw with a buddy. She may be nice, but if her friends make you feel like you're in a sequel to Mean Girls, it may not be worth it. Of course, this goes for all people, but on a college campus, in the close quarters of dorm life, a lover's friends are much more integral to a relationship, even if it's a one night stand. Be careful.

Watch Who's Watching.
Unfortunately, I've fallen victim to this. Fortunately, it was before the popularity of YouTube. Make sure you have time to trust the person you are with, for he or she could be chronicling the night for posterity. And by posterity, I mean making a particular sexploit into an internet sensation. Do not be the person with a sex tape floating around campus (well, unless this kind of thing turns you on. In that case, go for it).
